  2. Steve Jobs, You will be missed!

A lot can be said about this man, a leader, a genius, a visionary.

A man that taught many of us what a great, reachable, innovative, fun and sexy  user experience is and gave the world a great lesson in designing a product.

He changed the world for many of us - designers, architects, entrepreneurs, Start-ups, technology companies, children, adults, geeks, gadgets fans and to so many more…

Thank you Steve Jobs for giving us a better and fun world!

There are many inspiring quotes from Jobs, some of my favorites

    • People don’t know what they want until you show it to them.

    •  Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me … Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful… that’s what matters to me.” [The Wall Street Journal, May 25, 1993]

    Steve Jobs R.I.P  1955-2011

I guess, we will never know what great next invention we’ve missed…..

  3. My International Business Week in TLV

About two weeks ago, I participated in the first “International Business Week” (IBW) as part of StarTAU (Tel Aviv University Entreprenuership Center) initiative to introduce Israel in general and the Hi-Tech Startup scene in particular to Israelis and foreign business students\entrepreneurs.

Foreign students and entrepreneurs came from all over the world : US, Italy, India, Russia, Germany, Spain, Japan and spent the week along side Israeli entrepreneurs - all of them are studying business administration and have their dreams of starting initiatives.

A typical day started from an early morning networking breakfast, passing through very interesting company lectures, young and grownup experiences inspiring entrepreneurs, tours of Israel, debating and forums, and in the end of each day - enjoying in a bar and turning business into pleasure.

Part of the great lectures and visits were by big companies (Microsoft lead by Gilad Steinberger, Marvell, IBM, Google lead by Eyal Miller) mainly focusing on Start-ups support, partnership and acquisition, alongside with start-ups (Klarna lecture by Yuval Samet, Soluto lecture by Ishay Green(CTO, Founder), AnyClip by Maor Gillerman, Tic-tac-ti, Earnix by David Shapiro) and other aspects of the industry such as legal patents aspects and partners agreements (Eran Ben-Dor, Lawyer).

My favorite visit was to Jerusalem - there we were at a VC, JVP media quarters, which
explained in details the Behind the Scenes” of the ventures industry, methods of presenting an idea, raising money techniques and considerations JVP has when approaching a new initiative.
JVP established a campus which hosts startups that JVP funds, and you get the feelings you’re inside a fascinating labs which design the next best things that can make a difference.

There are many tips that were given by all lecturers that can be useful for for starting entrepreneurs and those are my top 6 out of them:

    1. The most important key to success is to surround yourself with good people, a core winning team.

    2. Being passionate about your product, believe in it and have a vision

    3. Dont do it for the partnership, Do it for the customer (David Shapiro, CEO)

    4. “Billions of people in the internet are waiting for your stuff” (Ishay Green, Soluto CEO, Founder)

    5. Integrity - understanding your strengths and weaknesses (Ishay Green, Soluto CEO, Founder)

    6. Stay in your domain of expertise

Though in the end of the week I had fever and missed part of the time, it has been a productive, enjoyable week - and StarTau managed to give a glimpse to the Hitech Industry ofStartup Nation, and I got to know great people from all over the world and hopefully we will stay in touch and maybe collaborate in the future.

Thanks to StarTau for launching this great international initiative!

  4. How to save 3k a year or - How to become the master of your (T.V) domain

Following the ongoing demonstrations here in Israel about the cost of living, I’d like to share with you my experience in saving 3K a year -

DISCONNECT from your Cable T.V, and use other alternatives!

When was the last time you watched T.V and mumbled “there’s nothing to see”?
Don’t you want to come home from work and just lay down on the sofa and watch your favorite show without any efforts? without waiting for the show to come up?

Here is my practical solution to decrease T.V cost - a “getting started” tutorial :

    1. Disconnect from cable T.V now  - cause there is nothing to watch especially when you want it most in your free time (unless you pay extra for VOD).

    2. Buy a streamer - a device that gets your T.V connected to your home network

    3. Not just any streamer - buy a Boxee box streamer

    4. Get all your favorite T.V shows and movies -preferably in a legal way ;)

    5. Come home, relax and watch whatever you want, whenever you want

    So why Boxee Box Streamer?

Besides being a hot and beautiful gadget, Boxee has a great UX! you won’t believe how easy is to manage your TV content in a smooth and elegant way - with its cool remote control (forget about clumsy keyboards around your living room).

“And finally … a device that could do what few in the industry have managed - make Apple’s rival product distinctively second best. Rory Cellan-Jones, BBC

Some of the highlights of the Boxee box from my perspective -

    1. See your local movies and series from your home network in an amazing way. In addition, the Boxee brings all related information from the web regarding your local content automatically such as subtitles, trailers, an IMDB rating , description, etc.

    2. Connects you to the real VOD of the world - the Internet(!) - watch movies, episodes, straight to your T.V easily using a remote control and with no efforts.

    3. Enriching the T.V watching experience - Boxee has growing repository of applications library - like Navi-X,Pandora, Netflix, youTube, RSS Feeds, TED, Revision3, AcuuWeather and many more (depends on location) which definitely enhanced my watch T.V experience.
    4. Price is around 200$ (less than 3 months of TV cable) - ROI is guaranteed here.
    5. The Boxee box is a small and beautiful gadget and does not need a lot of space (like for a “media center” computer)

      Boxee box
In short - become the master of your own (content) domain - watch what ever you want, when ever you want.

There is a lot more functionality which i didn’t mention here, because i’m busy enjoying the ones above…but boxee has a lot more to offer…..

Saving 3K per year has never been easier and funnier!

For all those that are asking about Boxee box competitors - so here is an answer from “The Next Web“ (an International Technology News, Business and Culture site)

So how does it stack up? In comparison to Apple’s TV, Boxee has nearly double the resolution and plays almost any file format while Apple TV is great for iTunes and stuff you can play on your iPod. Google TV is pretty amazing but Boxee is trying to replicate the TV watching experience with a remote as opposed to having to use a keyboard in your living room. Roku currently pushes all its content through 100 apps, while Boxee is adding over 400 apps from its library plus over 40,000 TV episodes and thousands of movies so no contest here. In comparison to Apple’s much anticipated HDTV? We’ll just have to wait and see.

The Boxee is the easiest way to bring movies, TV shows, photos and music from the web to your TV, I’m already using it and you?

  5. Google+ a thought

If you had a new chance to build your Facebook profile all over again, would you build it the same?

Would you approve all your current FB friends? Are there any statuses you regret writing in the web history pages? Maybe being a less like-able person - less or more likes on statuses/pictures? If you had a chance would you behave differently?

Now lets say you are given this opportunity….

Meet the new Google+ or in it’s nickname G+

Is it nice to meet G+? Yes, but only if the Googlers will respect our privacy and not return to past mistakes (the “Buzz” mistake)

You can find there the circle of your life with all kinds of small circles, segment  your friends into Google circles - family, friends, social media, networking, start ups, technology, innovation….

I think this time it might work for Google because -

The UI is cool - hello refreshingly HTML5 technology platform!

One of their smartest move - integrating all their products in one unified notification bar on the top of the browser, the navigation was never easier as it is now!
In the bottom line - it increases user’s engagement with G+.

One of Google’s strongest power - the SEO - searching your name on Google will result with your G+ profile, which means you can affect the result! This is Huge!

One more thing is once they will formally support businesses profiles - small and large ones will use this to enhance their Google search.

And eventually besides all the above, sometimes a new thing it’s exactly what you need….

Hello Google+ Bye messy Facebook (but not really)
